Structural, magnetic and magnetocaloric properties in distorted RE <sub>2</sub>NiTiO<sub>6</sub> double perovskite compounds

Abstract The magnetocaloric effect based Magnetic refrigeration (MR) was considered a novel energy-efficient and environmentally benign cooling method. However, the lack of suitable magnetic solids has slowed development its practical applications. We herein fabricated RE 2 NiTiO 6 ( = Gd, Tb Ho) double perovskite (DP) compounds systematically determined their structural, properties by experimental determination density functional theory calculations, in which Gd realized to exhibit promising cryogenic performances. results indicated that all DP crystallized distorted monoclinic structure with P 1 / n space group underwent second order type phase transition around 4.3, 4.5 3.9 K, for , Ho respectively. performances were checked parameters maximum entropy change relative power, are 31.28 J·kg −1 ·K 242.11 13.08 213.41 11.98 221.73 under field 0–50 kOe, Evidently, compound therefore is potential MR
